Ask me anything   Knit Patterns    Lessons Learned

I gave myself my first needles on my Birthday in February of 2011. I decided that I was going to teach myself how to knit. I promised myself that some day I was going to be an “Amazing knitter!” So here I am, far from amazing, obsessively purchasing yarn, teaching myself how to knit, and sharing that journey with you…

worn-out-places asked: I'm sure it is here somewhere, but I'm curious as to how you taught yourself to knit. I made a couple unsuccessful attempts. I have noticed that it's not so much that I can't knit, but that it looks sloppy and uneven. However, I bought a crochet book that came with a kit, and I picked up basic crochet stitches within a couple hours! I like that much more. =]

    Hi!

It probably is In here somewhere, but this is not the best site for archiving information…
I taught myself how to knit with a simple 2 dollar book from Michael’s and a bunch of YouTube videos! It is amazing how you can just type in any stitch instruction from any pattern right into google and the videos will pop up!
I found it hard to learn from the knitting instruction books. I am a watcher, and a repeater, I always have been. Seeing how to do the stitches has always been more helpful to me than reading how to do them. Plus it doesn’t help that I still don’t know my left hand from my right hand…. (I can’t even believe I’m admitting that… But well, there you have it)

I think when learning any new skill it is important to know how you learn best, and find a way that suits you!

    Good luck!
